Garde cable installation experience includes cable laying in excavated trenches along roadways. The intention is to minimise disruption and ensure the road is given back to the public as soon as possible.
Different modes of cable installation are employed, either via open trench or through conduits installed in the trench. Open trenches have a concrete floor and are shored up with timber supports. Rollers are placed every two meters to pull the cable into position prior to backfilling.
Conduits need to be well spaced in the trench, backfill is placed in position and the cable pulled through the conduits with friction lubricant to avoid damage.
The cable route may require the cable to curve around a 90-degree street corner. This requires specialized rollers to carry the cable to ensure it doesn't bounce off and sustain damage from friction.
